Seven Layer Fiesta Dip!

This wonderful Summer Time tasting Appetizer is great for parties, cookouts or just a quiet evening at home with family and friends. However, you choose to enjoy it – one thing is for sure, your taste buds are going to experience a fiesta of flavors.

DH_Seven Layer Dip

- Serves - 

Makes 8 cups or 64oz (2-tablespoon) servings

- Ingredients -

  • 1 can (16 ounces) refried beans
  • 1 container (16 ounces) sour cream
  • 1 package Taco Seasoning Mix
  • 1 package (8 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese, (2 cups)
  • 1 cup prepared guacamole
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • Tortilla chips

- Directions -

  1. Spread refried beans in shallow serving dish.
  2. Mix sour cream and Seasoning Mix in small bowl until well blended. Spread over refried beans.
  3. Top with layers of cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, onions and olives. Serve with tortilla chips.

- A Taste for Health Tip -

Substitute reduced fat sour cream and reduced fat cheese for a savings of 10 calories and 1g fat per serving. Serve with baked tortilla or pita chips to save additional calories and fat grams.

“Fitness Friday” Feature – Hard Work!

- NaTasha Coleman - 

Has always been in the realm of health and fitness. She comes from a family of athletes and grew up in sports. Since being the fastest in middle school for Field Day and in the Boys and Girls Club of Houston, she later became an All-American in high school track and field. While attending Ross Shaw Sterling High School, Natasha was always the athlete her coach could depend on. She received numerous honors for academics and was also nominated as Houston’s Scholar Athlete of the year in 1997.

She continued on to Mississippi State University and soon graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she was often named Conference Athlete of the Week. NaTasha received her Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Sports Management and a minor in Marketing.

Now holding a level one coaching license with USATF and competing professionally in track and field as a long jumper, NaTasha is currently ranked in the world. Jumping into to sands from the Caribbean circuit, to Nigeria, and even European countries.

We will be talking about his fantastic research out at NIH in the area of Breast Cancer, and the great news of identifying the molecular link between metabolism and breast cancer.
