A freshman at Rockville H.S. is raped at school while classes were in sessions…

A 14-year-old girl from Rockville High School was allegedly raped at school by two students. The 17 & 18-year-old boys reportedly forced the victim into a boy bathroom and then raped her in a stall. The two boys who had recently arrived from Central America were registered as freshmen. One of which has a deportation order.

A controversial bust is removed from Frederick City Hall…

A bust of former U.S. Chief Justice Roger Taney is gone from outside Frederick City Hall. Taney wrote the landmark Dred Scott decision in 1857 that black people who were slaves or descended from slaves had no citizenship rights or the right to sue in federal court. City leaders voted last year to remove the bust which had sat outside the historic building since 1932. It will be relocated to the cemetery where Taney is buried.

The head of the FBI is due to testify about Russian interference with the Presidential election…

FBI Director James Comey is expected to testify today at a House Intelligence Committee hearing into alleged Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election. Lawmakers will question Comey about an unsubstantiated claim by President Trump that the Obama administration ordered wiretapping at Trump Tower last year. National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers is also scheduled to go before the panel.

Senate Confirmation hearings begin for Supreme court nominee Judge Gorsuch…

Senate confirmation hearings start today for Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch. The 49-year-old federal judge is up for the seat on the high court left vacant when Justice Antonin Scalia died more than a year ago. Former President Barack Obama nominated federal judge Merrick Garland for the seat, but Senate Republicans refused to consider that nomination, leading some Democrats now to call it a “stolen seat.”
