Deadly Police-Involved Shooting, Chicago Holiday Violence

Deadly Police-Involved Shooting

DC police say investigators will be going over body camera footage as they look into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Northeast. Officials say the officer shot a man armed with a knife around 11:30 a.m. Christmas day after responding to a domestic disturbance call on Walnut Street. The man died of his injuries. The officer who fired the shot is on administrative leave. All of the officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras.

Chicago Police: Majority of holiday weekend violence is gang-related

Chicago police say more than 40 people were shot over the holiday weekend and more than three dozen guns were seized. The shooting tally includes violence at a family Christmas party on the city’s South Side at which two people were killed and several others wounded.  Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement that the majority of shootings and homicides from Friday afternoon through Monday morning were “targeted attacks by gangs against potential rivals who were at holiday gatherings.”

Obama: I Could Have Won

President Obama thinks he could have beaten Donald Trump and won a third term if he had run in 2016. The President told former senior adviser David Axelrod for the “Axe Files” podcast that he could have won because he believes voters still support his “hope and change” message that carried him for two victories. Obama told Axelrod — quote — “I am confident in this vision because I’m confident that if I had run again and articulated it, I think I could’ve mobilized a majority of the American people to rally behind it.” Obama also said that “Hillary Clinton performed wonderfully under really tough circumstances.”

Redskins Season Finale Flexed

The Redskins’ season finale has been flexed into a prime window. The NFL has announced that Sunday’s game against the New York Giants has been moved to 4:25 p.m. because of important playoff implications. If the Dallas Cowboys defeat the Detroit Lions tonight, then a Washington win on New Year’s Day would clinch a Wild Card berth for the team. If Detroit wins tonight, then the ‘Skins would need to win and depend on the Lions to beat the Packers on Sunday Night Football in order to make the playoffs.
