Several roads are closed for today’s 4th of July celebrations…

All of the road around the National Mall are closed to traffic this hour. It will remain that way until 10 tonight. The Independence Day parade begins at 11:45 down Constitution Ave, The Concert on the West Lawn of The Capitol begins at 8 tonight, the gates open at 3. The fireworks for now are scheduled to begin at 9:10 weather permitting.

Fireworks maim two people ahead of the holiday…

The public is also being reminded about firework safety. In Compton a 9 year old girl lost her left hand, several fingers from her right hand and suffered injuries to her face after playing with an illegal fireworks over the weekend. In New York, a 18 year old from Fairfax County, Va accidentally stepped on a homemade firecracker in Central Park and lost his foot. Conner Golden remains in serious but stable condition.

Metro’s next “Safe Track Plan” starts tomorrow…

Metro’s Phase III “Safe Track Plan” begins tomorrow at 8 pm until July 11th. There will be no service between Braddock Road and Reagan National on the Blue and Yellow lines.
