This is what its all about @ Joe’s Place
Spoken Word @ Joe’s Place was created out of the noticeable need for a growing interest in Poetry. Back in the day my muses for poetry were Nikki Giovanni, Gil Scott Heron and Sonya Sanchez along with other lyrical poets of the time. Then the late 90′s/Two thousands came along and here comes the likes of Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild and India Arie to name a few. Add to that, an HBO show called Def Poetry Jam produced by Stan Lathan and Russell Simmons it was a no brainier for us, my Producer Kimberly Washingtonto to reach out to the Poetry community once we got the green light to proceed with the idea.
Even to this day I can not tell you how long this show has been on the air because that’s just how much fun we’ve been having doing the show. I can tell you this, the idea of the show was to energize and entertain folks that normally don’t read or listen to poetry. By giving poets that voice we also brought a broader awareness of the art of poetry and the tradition of the spoken word. Once the show was realized we had to stay true to the mission. So hopefully over the years we’ve presented the best of the best as well as the unknown soldiers of this artistic endeavor called POETRY.
Join us every Wednesday at midnight as we bring you poets from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. From International to National to Local area poets, you’ll find them right here on SPOKEN WORD @ JOE’S PLACE.
