The United States Healthful Food Council (USHFC) has announced the first restaurants in the nation to achieve REAL Certification. REAL (Responsible Epicurean and Agricultural Leadership) Certification is a program of the USHFC helping connect people who want healthful and sustainable food and beverages with the restaurants and other foodservice operations that provide them.
“People are increasingly concerned with health and sustainability when eating out, and REAL Certification provides a holistic way to distinguish between those that ‘walk the walk,’ from those that simply ‘talk the talk,’” – Lawrence Williams, President of the USHFC.
“Washington is not only our nation’s capital, but it’s quickly becoming known for its culinary excellence and rapidly bourgeoning restaurant scene” according to Chris Stemp, USHFC Marketing Director. “Unfortunately, Washington also has one of the highest rates of childhood obesity and other food-related disease, which is why we have focused on Washington, DC for our launch.”
The REAL certification starts citywide in DC early next year. Check out some of theses restaraunts to get the REAL experience!
