Featuring Chaka Khan and recognizing the Wammie Nominees

Friday, March 5, 2010, 10:35 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: Bobby Gailes

It's looks like Spring has finally sprung.....well....let's hope this is not a tease. In any event it's going to be a great weekend just the same so get out and take advantage of it.

As always, Taylor Thomas will check in with the Weekend Haps and remember to keep track of the top 10 countdown for your chance to win our Early Riser Gift pack.

This weekend I'll be featuring Chaka Khan inside of our mini-concert which kicks off in the 7 am hour.

Now, last week was the 24th Annual Wammies, which is the Washington Area Music Awards.   I will spotlight a couple of the Wammie Nominees who were also featured inside of our "Local Artist Spot" segment several months ago.  Solo artist Wayna with her hit single "Daydream" and

The 76 Degrees West Band, and their jam "Be There".

I also want to recognize and congratulate some of the other Wammie Nominees, some of whom were featured on our Local Artist segment; Spur of the Moment, Be'la Dona, Sylver Logan Sharp, Raheem DeVaughn, Miriamm Wright, Marilyn Ashford Brown and Stanley Cooper.  Now, remember,  if you know of a local group or artist, send me their info and I'll check it out.

So, Enjoy the show and have a great weekend!

Prince takes to the Mini-Concert Stage

Friday, February 26, 2010, 06:55 AM EST [General]
    Posted By: Bobby Gailes

This weekend's  mini-concert will feature one of my favorite artist, musician, performer, you name it, he can do it all. He is the  multi-talented  "Prince".  We will be playing many of your favorite hits from the past like,  Little Red Corvette, 1999, Purple Rain, just to name a few.  So, be sure to check it out in the 7 am hour this Saturday morning.  Now, this weeks mini-concert has been requested by Gail Mosley from Silver Spring, MD, so if there is an artist or group you want featured on the mini-concert, submit your request today.

Another of my favorite features on the show is our "Local Artist Spotlight", where I give love and exposure to local artists and groups from the DC, VA and MD areas.  This week I'll be featuring a young rising star named  Chanell London.  She shares with us which singers influenced her growing up and about her single,  "Do You Like It".  So check her out at around 7:45 am Saturday morning.

Also, I'll give you a chance to win our Early Riser gift pack, so keep track of this weekends Top ten countdown and Taylor Thomas will check in with Weekend Haps.

So, enjoy the show and have a great weekend!

    Thanks as always for listening!

    A "Stevie Wonderful" Mini Concert

Friday, February 19, 2010, 05:55 AM EST [General]

This weekends show looks to be exciting for all of you Stevie Wonder fans.  In addition to this weeks edition of the Weekend Haps and our official top 10 countdown, I have the pleasure of presenting Stevie Wonder inside of the mini-concert.  You might think of this as a preview of Stevie's upcoming benefit concert for the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts, this Thursday Feb. 25th at the Kennedy Center.  So tune in at around 7am for your favorite songs from the legendary American icon, Stevie Wonder.

Also, I want to congratulate Ann-Marie Smith of Hyattsville, MD for being last weeks winner of our "Early Riser" prize pack.  So, keep track of the countdown this weekend for your chance to win!

As always, please feel free to submit your comments and your requests for the mini-concerts, pillow break and flashback songs.

So, enjoy the show and have a great weekend!

Well, it's finally the weekend and I for one will be digging out from this past weeks snow storm.  Hopefully this is the last of the big snow falls (keep your fingers crossed).

Anyway, on the show this weekend, Taylor Thomas will check in with some events that you can enjoy if you plan on venturing out with this weekend edition of "Weekend Haps".  Inside the mini-concert "Jill Scott" and that kicks off in the 7am hour.

Wrapping up the show I will spotlight a couple of songs from Jaheim's new CD "Another Round"

As always keep track of the countdown for your chance to win our "Early Riser" gift pack, just like last weeks winner; Sadesta Jacques of Dale City, VA.

So enjoy the show and have a great weekend!  And Happy Valentines Day!

Loved the Mini-concert this morning Bobby. Sade hit the spot. And I almost forgot, it was great hearing you on last Saturday afternoon filling in for Tony Richards, as well.
