Four people in Florida have been infected with the Zika virus by local mosquitoes, Florida health officials confirmed Friday. These are the first confirmed cases of infected US mosquitoes transmitted Americans.
According to CNN, those infected did not travel outside the US to infected areas or have sex with a partner who traveled to an infected area. US health officials have warned of more transmission but not at the rate of Puerto Rico throughout the Americas. There are currently 60 countries worldwide reporting cases of transmission.
