Boxing great Muhammad Ali and the Artist Formerly Known as Prince (as he was known back then), met for the first time Washington on June 24, 1997.
These pictures are when they first met, prior to a news conference where they announced plans for a benefit concert in Los Angeles. The show benefited the “Muhammad Ali World Healing Project.” which seeks to promote world tolerance.
Clearly an Ali admirer, Prince had this to say.
My friend Lyndel McMillan called me a couple of days ago and asked me. He said “Muhammad wants you to — ” and I said “Yes.” I didn’t even let him finish. He could have said “mow the lawn,” and I would have been down with it. Muhammad’s my hero. He has been since I was a child. As you can see, he’s such an inspiration to many people.
